§ Welcome

My call to teaching probably has roots in my mother being a Montessori school teacher my whole life; this has influenced both my sister and I towards academia. My creativity and pursuit of experimenting was fostered from a young age and plays a huge part in contributing to my love of learning. I consider myself a life-long student, willing to grow with each new day. I give my best effort to bring my own love of learning and experimentation to the classroom. It is my goal to inspire students to create art and design as I work beside them.

I hold a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Art & Technology Studies, and a MFA in the field of Conceptual & Information Arts from San Francisco State University. Personally, I work in a variety of mediums including: performance, sound, drawing, design, sculpture, and interactivity. Currently I teach full-time, and I am working towards a Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum & Instruction. This degree is honing my skills as an educator, as well as giving me the opportunity to research the links between art projects, comprehension, and learning styles.

Art studio classroomDuring my doctoral research I will be exploring the reactions of adult students who are in art integration courses in a general education curriculum. I will be using the qualitative methodology of Grounded Theory research, holding extensive open-ended interviews with participants. I would like to network with others doing similar research with adult learners in higher education. Please do not hesitate to contact me at: max (at) maxkelly (dot) info
